Import Use Case steps

I am trying to Import whole Use Cases at once (including main and alternative flow). Is there any possibility to do so, because I did not find any help about it within your support site and your helpfiles in CaseComplete.

Hi Thomas,

Import is limited to single-dimensional data, since its coming from a flat file. Right now we can't import the two dimensional flow of events and associated extensions.

The fields for which you can import use cases are :

ID, Name, Description, Priority, Level, Complexity, Implementation Status (or ImplStatus), Use Case Status, Assigned To, Release, Preconditions, Success Guarantees, Testing Setup (or Setup), Testing Configurations (or Configurations), Date Added

For more information on importing into CaseComplete, choose File, Import / Export and click on the Help button in the import dialog box.

Is this still the case or has this functionality been added to...I also would like to import more than the defined data as outlined in the above response?

Hi Audrey,

Sorry, but it's still the case that you can't import lists of items (i.e. you can't import steps, notes, issues, etc.).  You can however import custom fields (perhaps that addresses your question about importing more than the defined data shown above).

Sure thing, Audrey.

The built-in template "Use Case List.xls" pretty much matches what use case information you can import into CaseComplete. Using that format, you'd need to replace the keywords (they begin with $) with your data in the appropriate columns and delete the $info section, and you should be all set.

One thing to note is that there are a couple of extra columns in there that if you put data under will be ignored, as they aren't a valid option for importing. For example, the Primary and Supporting Actors columns, along with one or two more.

The valid use case fields can be found by clicking File / Import / Excel File, then the Help button, and are as follows: ID, Name, Description, Priority, Level, Complexity, Implementation Status (or ImplStatus), Use Case Status, Assigned To, Release, Preconditions, Success Guarantees, Testing Setup (or Setup), Testing Configurations (or Configurations), Date Added
