To export the fields, just modify the template you're using for export and name those custom fields using the $ prefix.

To import the fields, they just need to be in the import spreadsheet with the column name corresponding to a custom field that's defined in the project you're importing into.

There's more info on importing available by choosing File / Import-Export / Import Excel and clicking the Help button on the import dialog box.

I managed to add custom fields for export in the excel report. It brings the values in custom fields .. Then I saved on the spreadsheet filling out the custom field columns and tried to import the same with option to "update existing"... Here is what I notice ...

  1. Unless a value in built-in field is changed, it does not recognise a "change" , and therefore ignores on import !

  2. Made a dummy change on one of the built -in field (  description)  , yet the custom field is not updated.. Only built-in field change is updated ...

Is there something I've missed ? Jeff , did you manage to import custom fields?

Hi Shubhada,

Hard to say exactly what's going wrong without seeing your template.  However, here are a couple of things to verify:

  1. Make sure the spacing and case in the column header cells are identical to the spacing and case of the custom field.  For example, the column header for a custom field named My Custom Field should be exactly that.  This is in contrast to the reporting keyword which must have spaces stripped, such as $MyCustomField.
  2. Make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces in the column header cells.
  3. Make sure the custom fields are already defined in the project you are importing into.  CaseComplete ignores columns if it can't find a built-in or custom field that matches. (Based on what you say, I suspect this is true for you, but I mention it for completeness).

If it's none of the above, please open a support ticket so you can send us your report template and we can more easily troubleshoot the problem.  Thanks,

Doug

I followed the advice on point 1 above and the import worked.

Thanks,

Shubhada
