Overview of how to Import Requirements from Excel xlsx doc

Good Morning!

I'm evaluating CC using the 30-day eval license.   I've got 2 questions for you:

1) I'd like to import some requirments from an Excel XLSX (2010) file.   I'll I want is the Requirement Description and I'm happy to Let Case Complete (CC) provide a new enumeration ID and I'll set the other attributes like Req Type, etc.

I've right-mouse clicked a few places on the REQUIREMENTS tab and reviewed the menu bar & Ribbon .. but I can't seem to find any IMPORT menu item.   Can you help?

2) I'd like to group all of the terms in my growing dictionary into a conceptual "Dictionary Folder" rather than seeing all the terms on the right side of my screen in the explorer.   Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Tom! Thanks for giving CaseComplete a spin!

1) To import your requirements from an Excel file, click on File / Import/Export / Excel File on the ribbon bar. Follow the instructions there - and there's also a Help button with more details - to get your descriptions into your project.

Edit: New location for import is on the Connect tab in the Ribbon along the top of CaseComplete (click the Excel button in the Import section)

2) Beginning with the 2012 verison, dictionary terms can now be organized into any package. You can organize your terms a number of ways, but the easiest might be to right-click on your top-level package in the project browser (on the right side of the screen), then select Add Package from the context menu. Name it something like "Dictionary," then click and drag your terms into it. You can select one term at a time in the project browser, or select multiple terms on the Dictionaries tab by using shift- or ctrl-click, then drag your terms into the dictionary package in the project browser.

Hi, Jason …

 Thanks for your quick response.

Hey … your answer to my 2nd question worked perfectly.  Thanks.

However, for my 1st question on Importing Requirement into CC from Excel … I couldn’t follow your instructions because I don’t have the options you mentioned … here’s the image of my Ribbon when I have the Requirements Tab selected.  You can see that there is no Import/Export option listed under Tools.

Here’s what you stated I should do:  1) To import your requirements from an Excel file, click on Tools / Import/Export / Excel File on the ribbon bar. Follow the instructions there - and there's also a Help button with more details - to get your descriptions into your project.

I’m going to be demoing CC tomorrow to some of the folks on my project  … so I’m under some time pressure to show how we can use CC to import our existing Reqs (from Excel) and build some UCs.

Thanks, Jason

I apologize, Tom. I had my head in the clouds or something...the options to click on the ribbon bar are File / Import/Export / Excel File, not Tools / Import/Export / Excel File, as I had stated previously.
